Pulled the trigger: RM 1997!!!
I just pulled the trigger on my first Rick! I bought an RM 1997 from forum member Houblues! I was originally looking for a 12 string, then was undecided. This 6-string 1997 looks like a beaut so couldn't resist. Now I just have to wait for Paypal's ridiculously long "processing" time. 6-8 business days is outrageous!
Thanks for the advice everyone!

6-8 business days is if you choose to use a Paypal check, or for an initial purchase.
I'm no Paypal fan, but once you're established, "cash" transfers are immediate.

The model 1997 is hands-down the best guitar I've ever played, not to mention the one I'd choose to be buried with.

Woohoo that sounds good! As for the Paypal thing, I have made many many Paypal purchases (although it has been a few months since the last one) and don't recall it taking that long. I think I'll contact them and see if I can sort that out.
Oh and Beatlefreak that is the best avatar I have seen in a while!

Dan, Paypal should be virtually immediate unless you sent a Paypal check instead on an instant money transfer.
Or, maybe they've changed the rules???

Do you mean adding money to my paypal balance from my bank account before sending funds instead of going straight from the bank account?

That shouldn't make a difference.

Congratulations. You are going to love it.
I have had several of the Rose Morris reissues and the 1997 models are my favorites. My latest is a Fireglo 1997 SPC made in 1993.

PayPal has some sort of delay when you are the seller now and the funds aren't released ubtil the buyer gets the goods and posts a positive feedback. A true pain but I suspect can be a buyer protection. The money shows up but you can't actually touch it.
Also, I think you have to be a "Verified" business member to get the instant payment. Not sure about that but I am and the money does come right there from things like my camera lens sale dealings through Nikonians and such.
The 1997 is a wonderful instrument. When the economic dust clears, you'll truly enjoy that RIC.

Dat 'splains it...I've been verified for a few years now and have never seen a delay. In fact, they have personally handled a couple of glitches that I've had being at the seller end, and have reversed the rules immediately with a polite phone call. As I said, I'm no fan, but they do seem to be becoming more customer-friendly.

I also just noticed that although I had a credit card linked to my account, it was not confirmed. Doh. That might have something to do with it as well. I can't wait to get it! I really think this guitar will suit the band I'm playing with right now! The punchyness and clarity of a Rick are pretty unique, the "ring" isn't too bad either... You guys are really getting me excited about this riff axe!
Re: Pulled the trigger: RM 1997!!!
Oooh yeah I got a tag today from Canada Post. Kind of annoying, the guy didn't even ring the bell I know because I was home all day! Not to mention, the guitar cleared customs last Wednesday and took until today to deliver (I live in Toronto so customs is at the airport, not far from me at all)! Oh well I will be picking up my new (to me) guitar tomorrow afternoon! I can't wait! I will post my impressions if I can peel myself away from it for long enough!

Congrats Daniel:
Nice to have another Rickenbacker in Canada!
Be sure to share your impressions when you get to play her, and don't forget to add it to the register, hopefully with a few pictures too...
Looks good on ya to score such a nice guitar...

Re: Pulled the trigger: RM 1997!!!
I finally got the guitar! I purchased it from forum member Houblues, who did a fantastic job packing the guitar and just generally making the transaction run smoothly. Not to mention just being a nice guy! The guitar is beautiful, plays great (I love the neck!!). I am a little disappointed with the sound so far though
I'm still messing around with it (I'm going to dial in just a tad more neck relief, having already raised the action a hair, and I'll experiment with pickup heights as well) so I'm sure I'll get there. Thanks for everyone's help. I'll post my impressions as I spend more time with this beautiful guitar!
